Responding to the Hill Country Flooding

From Synod Partnership for Disaster Recovery (SPDR): Responding to the Hill Country Flooding
Many across the Synod of the Sun have held the people and places dear to our hearts in ceaseless prayer since the deadly flooding of the Guadalupe River began on July 4th. Faith leaders in Mission Presbytery and Tres Rios Presbytery are tirelessly serving impacted community members throughout Texas, and they remain grateful for the prayers and care extended to them as they support the ongoing operations to locate lives, assess damages, and salvage what remains.
So what now?
The Synod Partnership for Disaster Recovery (SPDR) will continue to connect with our presbytery and ministry leaders and responding organizations using the 4 Cs of disaster recovery – communication, cooperation, coordination, and collaboration – both to address immediate needs and as we engage in the long term recovery of this region.
I wanted to quote Rev. Dr. Cliff Stewart on the tragedy and grief found in his newsletter and sermon this past week:
“Blessing isn’t flashy. It doesn’t always photograph well. It shows up in the middle of grief, in the slow work of life, in the courage to be gentle in a hard world.
Charm wears off. Blessing holds on.
When you are blessed, you’re not just liked – you are known. You’re not loved because you’re impressive. You’re loved because God delights in you. Being blessed probably won’t land you in a brand-new, flashy deal. But it will give you a life with roots, meaning and grace.”
